Document Management

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

In August of 2006, I wrote a blog post about Drupal for Documents. In that post I outlined some of the modules that could be used together to build a document management system in Drupal.

This group is for the discussion of best practices for storing files in Drupal, consideration of improvements and modules that could help improve the process, and for other document related issues in Drupal.

Modules

Posted by sanjarhakimi on March 26, 2015 at 3:39pm

Greeting, I'm eager to correspond more about Drupal and document management.

I've been experimenting with Document and Filedepot. What do you all think about those two. What else should one consider?

What are you thoughts on DocumentLocator's DMS

Posted by chris_s on November 16, 2012 at 5:10pm

I've had nothing but good success using DocumentLocator as my document management software solution, but would like to know what others think. Has anyone else used this before or are you even aware of it? My favorite part is how easily it integrates with Windows and Office. Hit me up if you have any questions, but you can find more information here: http://www.documentlocator.com

Seeking expert advice from Drupal module developer

Posted by rifat on October 1, 2011 at 10:28am

I am looking for some expert advise from Drupal module developer. We have found the existence of module for document management software. Unfortunately we use different document management software.

In order to manage our website content we are planning to migrate to Drupal. Do any of you have ever used Content Central - document management software from Ademero ( http://www.ademero.com )

If not what type of information you will need to know whether it is possible to develop module for this document management software.

They use SQL server.

Thanks in advance

Database development prior to MySQL

Posted by aaron1948 on September 28, 2011 at 7:20am

I am seeking advice about what might be the best database program to use to create a large pre-MySQL database, from which I will select the content to export/import/enter into a Drupal MySQL database.

I am developing my first Drupal site -- a web portal where information will be organized by relevance to various generations. The site will launch with a Baby Boomer orientation, with information organized for various baby boomer niches, and then expand to serve more generational niches.

Technical Documentation with Drupal - Help with Starting Place

Posted by Captain Nemo on September 26, 2011 at 9:50pm

Hi.

I'm a complete Drupal noob, tasked with creating technical documentation on a short budget. From what I've seen, Drupal as a front end will work, but I have no idea what modules to use or where to begin. Please review the requirements below and provide any pointers you can.

Many thanks!

Michael

Do you want to develop the skills to offer the technology in your own business (like me)? Where there are papers to sign there is usually value nearby. Are you up for fun competition, meeting other developers, and contributing back to the community?

My choice : no DMS in Drupal but Drupal connected to a nice open source DMS solution : Maarch

Posted by HerVil on April 22, 2011 at 8:49am

Maarch is a small but growing French company based in Nanterre ( near Paris ).
They are very interested in the project of interfacing drupal and Maarch (via web services) and are willing to invest in this project.

Secure Document Management solution - the filedepot module

Posted by blainelang on January 15, 2011 at 6:30pm

The filedepot module is a feature rich application for managing and sharing files securely across your organization or user community. The module is easy to install as it only requires the base CCK and filefield modules. The filedepot module has been developed to provide the user with an easy to use functions to search, download, edit and add documents. The user interface has been developed with design cues from Google Docs and makes extensive use of modern web application technologies to behave like a desktop application.

Document Management : Allow DAV API Clients to specify non-root parent collection.

Posted by jun on February 2, 2010 at 9:19pm

Hi,

I posted the below as a feature request in the DAV API issue queue http://drupal.org/node/702860.

Thought it might interest some people here so here it is :

Fixing a small bug http://drupal.org/node/451762 caused by a conflict between File Server and File Relation Server made me dream again about what I first dreamt about when I tried File Server. Imagine! No more dictatorship of the hierarchical folder structure! Multi-parent taxonomies, graph-like access to files... Very inspiring :) Here's maybe one way to go down this route.

So has anyone set up a DMS with Drupal + Solr ?

Posted by mysty@drupal.org on September 12, 2008 at 11:13am

Now that [edit(削除) Solr (削除ここまで)] apachesolr has moved on considerably, I was wondering if anyone has used it's full text indexing of documents combined with the taxonomy, and access control of drupal as part of a DMS.

I tried this a year ago, couldnt get it working and ended up with a Knowledge Tree/Drupal integrated solution, which seems good at the time, but in use was too disparate. I want it in Drupal (!), not another system.

Document management needed

Posted by jmeehan on November 28, 2007 at 4:38pm

I am looking for a module that will do the following:

  • Multiple uploads at once (drag and drop would be nice).
  • Directory browsing of these files or something similar.
  • Simple links for search engine crawling.
  • Incorporate Drupal security to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Ability to organize files by directory.

Does such a module or group of modules exist that will accomplish each of these tasks?

How to create a Node with VCS capabilties

Posted by amitaibu on October 8, 2007 at 7:00pm

Hello,
I'd like to a CCK content type with a file field. However I'd like the File to be VCSed, meaning that when the file is changed it will be logged. As far as I understand Jakob's new module is not connected to a specific node.

I'd like to use such a thing in order to build a system which accepts files, and allows adding more data, that later could be used to filter the nodes, i.e. files.

Any idea how to?

Cheers,
Amitai

Drupal - Knowledge Tree Integration

Posted by zostay on June 22, 2007 at 2:09pm

I just wanted to make a quick post to mention that I just noticed the new KT project posted by haimoura to integrate Drupal with Knowledge Tree (an Open Source DMS written in PHP). Here's the project description:

Integration of Knowlege Tree DMS in drupal.

Knowledge Tree project : http://www.knowledgetree.com

KnowledgeTree is document management made simple: a simple yet powerful, free, commercial open source and Web-based document management system.

current docs status and an rfc

Posted by dikini on June 5, 2007 at 8:24am

I've made two alfa releases of the module, more on the way. The module is still in alfa for three main reasons:

  • would love more feedback
  • more features need to be implemented
  • there are known bugs affecting installation edge cases

Currently implemented features

  • Directories - implemented based on taxonomy

docs.module in cvs

Posted by dikini on May 24, 2007 at 9:22am
Last updated by dikini on Thu, 2007年05月24日 09:22

I uploaded a simple file/document management module. I consider it a pre-beta quality, so you won't get it through the project interface, just cvs. It targets D5 at the moment, but is trivial to port to D6.

There are quite a few more things I want to add to it. Some of them are probably going to end as extension modules.

Why just another module doing something like file management?

  • no dependencies outside core
  • upload.module might be a hack, but it supports revisions and other goodies
  • taxonomy is a good analogy for folders

Google Summer of Code

I see that the Summer of Code slots have been set. 20 of them are drupal related and of those
Unified File Management http://code.google.com/soc/drupal/appinfo.html?csaid=FA475F12A343C364
Private versus Public File Management for Drupal http://code.google.com/soc/drupal/appinfo.html?csaid=31A32F81A3DD031
and perhaps
Taxonomy Manager http://code.google.com/soc/drupal/appinfo.html?csaid=5374D02AB6384CDF

Modules for DMS

Posted by zostay on April 6, 2007 at 2:29am

After reading Hariska2@drupal.org's comment about creating a rudimentary DMS module, I was thinking about wanting just such a thing. (It is part of the reason for establishing this group.)

However, much of the functionality already exists. I want to make sure that if I aid in the creation of a new module for document management that that module doesn't totally overlap existing functionality to much. However, there are some pretty significant improvements that I think could be made. I will commence with suggesting the things that already exist and then consider what is missing.
