Alumni

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

Welcome to the Alumni drupal group. This is the place to collaborate with others on creating, growing and maintaining web sites dedicated to alumni, such as alumni of a given high school, college, or even company.

I have created a few stub pages to begin organizing this group's content. Hopefully others who have content to contribute can edit and add it to the existing pages or create new pages.

Also feel free to contact me directly.

Rice Class of 2009 Online Community

Posted by jdleonard on May 31, 2009 at 3:16pm

I recently launched the Rice University Class of 2009 Online Community as a venue at which members of my graduating class can keep in touch with each other. Specifically it aims to help those who wouldn't otherwise go out of their way to keep in touch with our class (especially with those members with whom they weren't the closest). The community is closed, but I'd be happy to answer any questions about it, especially if you're considering doing something similar. Thus far roughly 2/7 of my class are registered.

phone meeting; initial configuration

Posted by tandonian on May 8, 2009 at 5:20pm

George and I talked for 30 minutes this morning trying to wrap our heads around site config, coordination and version control, and modules and other general alumni happenings. We concluded that we think it is realistic that we get a 'brochure' site polished and running before Paolo's 90th gathering at Arco in mid June.

Creating custom user profiles, D6

Posted by tandonian on May 8, 2009 at 4:12pm

We are working on an alumni site and we would like to extend the drupal profile to our specs. We want to populate the profile with very basic information; name, and email address, and then notify the alum of their account being created. We then want them to be able to log in and add information at their discretion, and ideally also expose it to certain user roles at their discretion.

some of my writing on the subject

Posted by tandonian on April 29, 2009 at 8:24pm

I did some writing about my ideas on social media and it's role in society formation and organization. Just wanted to share it here. Features a picture I took of Paolo Soleri in 2006 while we were working at Cosanti on a nice new earth casting they were adding onto the existing ceramics area.

New site went live

Posted by tandonian on April 28, 2009 at 5:49am

OK, so it's been a while, but we are back working on the arcosanti alumni site at www.arcosantialumninetwork.org. It has been a long drought, but the timing is better this time as all of the key D6 modules are in official release and we as a team are more ready to work on it now.

Test Site 1.0

Posted by tandonian on September 3, 2008 at 8:42pm

I've finally got a 1.0 release of the Alumni site up and running on a dev environment. We decided to migrate the site from D5 to D6 now since we were basically at the ground floor. This was a tricky decision because there are definitely lots of modules that are still in development that are pretty critical for any drupal site. However, Views and CCK are getting very close and a few others will follow close behind them once they are ready.

2008年08月14日 15:30 - 17:00 US/Pacific
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

We are getting together to talk about our alumni network and how we can use Drupal to re-launch the website. I'm sure we will be talking about Arcology and Arcosanti in general, and how social media might empower our alumni to organize and act on ideas for furthering the Arcology concept.
If you are interested in Arcology, or even ecological design in architecture and urban development, we'd love to hear from you. We'll be meeting at Mission City coffee in Santa Clara.

Cheers

Security

Posted by BrianD74 on July 9, 2008 at 3:07pm

Just wondering, I'm thinking of converting an alumni site to be Drupal based, but I noticed one of the example sites, crateralumni.com is heavily spammed. This would be one of my main concerns about switching. Is this common, and what possible solutions are available?

Thanks,
Brian

I've been recently hired by a Public High School in downtown Boston and after displaying some level of technical proficiency, the school has decided to make me their official Drupal person with the first project being to overhaul the existing Alumni Website. I have never worked with a CMS and have made it clear to them that this is something I will have to learn...

Site for Simon Kenton HS/Alumni

Posted by zahor on August 15, 2007 at 4:43pm

The past few months I set out to build my first major Drupal project, and this is the result. It's a site that will be used for alumni and current students of Simon Kenton High School in Independence, Kentucky. We expect possibly over 3000 users as last forum site used had about 2500.

The one thing that really makes me happy is how much the users appreciate what has been done. I'm still working to improve some parts of it, as I my skills have improved since I started the site (over 4 months ago) and there are some parts I did back then.

Site can be seen here: http://www.simonkenton.org

University Student Organizations Group

Posted by jdleonard on May 8, 2007 at 6:41am

Hi there! I just launched the University Student Organizations group. The groups seem related and I thought there might be some overlapping interest. I'll probably have a good deal of interest in running alumni websites when I graduate from college in two years!
