Usage

Use this rcat template on mainspace redirects only.

This redirect category (rcat) template populates Category:Redirects from surnames and, for administrative purposes, Category:Surnames is also populated by default. Add this rcat to a redirect page (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:

Template {{Rcat shell }} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:

Use this rcat to tag any mainspace redirect from a surname. These surname redirects are used because Wikipedia has only one article about a person with this surname, or because one individual is the most likely topic sought by this surname (other persons who share this name might be listed at an anthroponymy article or at the end of a disambiguation page).
The sort to Category:Surnames was asked for by contributors who monitor that category for maintenance needs. If necessary, it can be suppressed by using the unnamed parameter, |1=, in the following manner:

Printworthiness

Please do not alter the printworthy settings of any rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team , who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia.

In main-article namespace, some surname redirects are printworthy; however, there are others that are unprintworthy, so there is no default sort for printworthiness.
