"Tufano" vandalism

[edit ]

Note that edits inserting supposed information about "Marc Tufano" are vandalism and should be reverted on sight. This has affected multiple articles (Robert De Niro, The Beatles, etc. etc.) -- Curps 18:06, 31 December 2005 (UTC) [reply ]

Japan Connection

[edit ]

I'm not sure about the following information but here it goes
spoiler alert
I once saw a short animated movie about depression and in one of the segments it featured Mr. Forman talking about playing solitaire and losing his dog who drowned in a pond. The segment was narrated by Mr. Forman. He also mentioned that he was born in Japan, and having to travel a lot as a kid. I can't remember the name of the animated film, and I'm not sure if it was actually Mr Forman or some other famous director. Does anybody have further information concerning this?? I'd appreciate it -- Witchinghour 05:31, 30 September 2006 (UTC) [reply ]

found a reference about this story and animated film at this blog, the title isn't given though http://www.talkingcrow.com/blog/2005/03/ -- Witchinghour 18:14, 30 September 2006 (UTC) [reply ]

Photo

[edit ]

I just attended a screening of One Flew Over the cuckoos Nest, With a Q&A with Forman and i got a decent picture of him. i was wondering i I should put it on this page since it has no picture. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.148.70.130 (talk) 10:23, 1 October 2009 (UTC) [reply ]

his name

[edit ]

According to this article, Mr. Forman's real name is Jan Tomas, not Milos. Does anyone know when and why he changed his name? That would seem to be a rather important point that would deserve a mention in his biography. K. Lásztocska talk 04:54, 27 December 2007 (UTC) [reply ]

Perhaps a better question is why there is no reference cited for any "Jan Tomáš" name. All he cited sources use "Milos Forman" without squiggles (except the Czech one). Even if that is established by a verifiable source, we don't always know how various nicknames get established. Gene Nygaard (talk) 21:58, 2 February 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Academy Awards reference on the opening paragraph

[edit ]

According to the 1st paragraph:
"Two of his films, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Amadeus are among the most celebrated in the history of motion picture. As a director, Forman has been nominated for three Academy Awards of which he won two."
Wouldn't it be nice to specify the 2 award-winning films? I would suggest:
"Two of his films, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Amadeus are among the most celebrated in the history of motion picture. Both films won Forman the Academy Award as a director. He was also nominated for The People vs. Larry Flynt."
Would anyone like to update this? Thanks Kvsh5 (talk) 15:47, 8 October 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Good point; done. Thanks. Gregorik (talk) 20:36, 5 January 2009 (UTC) [reply ]

Section about his Father contradict itself

[edit ]

First it is mentioned his father was "Rudolf Forman, a professor", then just a couple of sentances forward it is said that it was "later discovered that his biological father was a Jewish architect." So what is true? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.143.117.34 (talk) 01:29, 1 January 2009 (UTC) [reply ]

Film about Spassky and Fisher....

Lead section

[edit ]

I take issue with part of the following sentence in the lead section, marked in italics: "Two of his films, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Amadeus, are among the most celebrated in the history of film, both garnering him the Academy Award as a director." This is a peacock term and is probably a claim to save for the film articles and to back it up there. Erik (talk) 21:18, 28 January 2010 (UTC) [reply ]

Terms such as "greatest" and "most celebrated" impart a sense of importance without the added benefit of context and, as such, are of little benefit to the reader, especially in the lead section. "Career" and "Filmography" are sections better suited to discuss the success or acclamation of his work and then again the reader will benefit more from a specific explanation (including appropriate citations) of why these films are as celebrated as they are rather than just stating the fact. Big Bird (talkcontribs) 21:33, 28 January 2010 (UTC) [reply ]
I think there are a choice few directors (including double Oscar winners) who deserve more than a dry, standard lead. I mean, look at the Ingmar Bergman lead: "probably the greatest film artist, all things considered, since the invention of the motion picture camera", he is recognized as one of the most accomplished and influential dramatic artists of all time." I'll try to find references that discuss the magnitude of Forman's films. Gregorik (talk) 22:02, 28 January 2010 (UTC) [reply ]
"Probably the greatest" is a cited direct quote from Woody Allen which makes it not in violation of WP:PEACOCK as "unsourced or unexplained". Even as such, I would consider it inappropriate for the lead, being better suited for further sections within the body of the article. Big Bird (talkcontribs) 13:37, 29 January 2010 (UTC) [reply ]

Could someone translate this page to English?

"Huge succes One flew Over the Cucko's Nest has allowed it over on realization of musical comedy Hair in 1979, as it concedes be from 1967 year dream when it has seen version of musical comedy Broadway's. There was next important achievement art adaption Peter Shaffer Amadeus in 1984 - it free biography of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri. Style

[edit ]

I removed the whole section because it reads as total nonsense. Amadeus, Cuckoo's Nest, Man on the Moon and Ragtime all star well-known star actors. Gimme a break. "Personal style of comedy" ? Cuckoo's Nest and Amadeus are not even remotely funny or intended as comedies. "Para-documentary style" ? Get out of here. Forman's style is overtly cinemati and closer to art-house in style.

Would the contributor of this section please come up with some reliable peer-reviewed sources. Section is preserved below for reference---

"Forman has made his own personal style of comedy. His heroes are outsiders leading unconventional lives. His movies are often closely rooted in reality and possess a "para-documentary" quality. His movies typically involve an amateur cast of actors, or actors that are not typically well known." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.180.50.145 (talk) 16:23, 12 March 2014 (UTC) [reply ]

Miloš FormanMilos Forman – Just a suggestion. I am not fully aware of the governing policy in this case but this spelling seems to be the one more commonly used in the Anglophone world (at least in the US).
