    Brave vs Mozilla Firefox Comments

Currently (March 2017), Brave is not a mature project. It's an open-source privacy-oriented browser and very fast. But you rely on the developers to provide most of the privacy settings, and you can't install extensions. Firefox remains much more customizable via it's about:config menu options.

Top Negative Comment by dabockster ·

Absolute bait-and-switch of a browser. They advertise privacy and ad blocking, yet you can't disable their crypto wallets or their Web3 stuff. Who knows what else they'll add in future that people won't be able to switch off.

Slower and clunkier than Firefox, but has IP-masking and fingerprint resistance built-in. Definitely the most practical way to browse the web anonymously.

Closed source made by Google. Much less trustworthy than open source, made by the non-profit Mozilla

    Negative comment by dabockster ·

Google is a monopolist company because of Chrome and the amount of power it can exert over web development. Even Microsoft Edge is better.

    Negative comment by Curuxa ·

Proprietary, made by a profit company based on spy it users, cannot custom, not equivalent like about:config in Firefox, cannot disable telemetry or see code, so it is a black box. Shitty add-ons, Chrome is killing Third party and also going to kill third add-ons... Performance is ok but I don't see difference with Firefox (in Linux also Firefox is WAY BETTER in performance) Don't support monopolist companies.

    Positive comment by catnip-teaparty ·

LibreWolf has defaults for clearing all browsing history that change the way you store data about yourself, so that it's not really usable as a daily driver web browser, unless you just switch back to Firefox, or you are a person who avoids keeping logs of their browsing history on their own computer.

Waterfox is made for x64 (amd64) CPUs, and it also delivers you a fine service concerning privacy, firstly devs removed telemetry and tracking implented recently in Firefox. Secondly it supports old extensions and pocket was removed

Dated when compared to actual Firefox, some extensions doesn't work properly due to it being based on a old version of Firefox.

    Chromium vs Mozilla Firefox Comments

Top Positive Comment by John Fastman ·

Chromium is the core of the Chrome browser. It functions well enough as a browser but lacks some of Chrome's features (e.g. built in language translator). Even though Chromium is open source, it still "phones home" to Google, which has privacy implications. There are more private Chromium-based browsers, such as Brave and Iridium.

Top Negative Comment by Guest ·

Chromium doesn't have DRM features and some codecs implemented like Google Chrome, it's open-source but all your data goes to Google when you use Chrome Store to download apps since there is no Chromium store. Also, this browser is hard to install on Windows, you have to compile or download versions that are created by the users daily, so it means you do not have a proper installer like on Linux/BSD.

Despite Chromium being "open source", it still downloads Google-related crap and phones home to Google. If you value your online privacy, you'll appreciate the Ungoogled Chromium browser, which removes all that. However, Firefox remains more customizable in terms of privacy options.

Top Negative Comment by dabockster ·

More like GNU/Chromium. It will not load anything deemed "non-free". This includes DRM content, regular Chrome extensions, and a bunch of other random tweaks here and there. Not a good idea to use unless you know what you're doing.

    Comment by quifom ·

It inherits implements web standards and somewhat better GPU handling from Chromium. Unfortunately cutting dependency on Google comes with it being not very usable. Privacy-wise it's pretty much identical to something like LibreWolf; functionally Ungoogled Chromium is better only for exotic features like Web Bluetooth API.
