I would like to point out that it is difficult to notice the categories menu on the Directory's home page. It is currently under the FSF's advertisement. It might be better to make a 4th column or to place the advertisement below the menu.
Maybe you could delete such projects or a better approach could be to host the project's latest release so the code would survive the project's website.

I have also noticed some project's links are dead. For instance Eletor WWW's homepage is not accessible: http://directory.fsf.org/project/eletor/
