While we still use email, IM is perfect for immediate feedback on things that can't wait, or for simple note-dropping. We also use Messenger as a meeting room when discussing projects, something you can't do very effectively with email. Finally, IM allows us to know when the other person is available, away, busy, out to lunch, etc. Overall, we all save a tremendous amount of money on our phone bills, as none one of us live within the same area code."
