News from August 24 to 31, 1998<[japanese]

All trains of "Yamagata Sinkansen" (Super Express) stopped because of much rain which has rain day after day. Not only Yamagata Shinkansen but also all trains bound for other prefectrue stopped. JR (Japan Railway) used buses for tourists. The level of the river "Mogamigawa" which run through Yamagata Prefecture was over danger level. Many people gathered to protect banks.

They had a competition of MTB (Mountain Bike) in the rainy condition at the Tendo Kougen (heights). It was the 2nd event and over 450 people joined this year. We had much rain every day, athletes made efforts to run on the duty course. The City office said that they had a plan to built official course at the Tendo Kougen.

They will start to use the auto machine for the certificate at the Tendo City Office. We can get it from October 1. That machine is simmilar to ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) at the bank. With it, we can get the certificate on not only weekday but also weekend. It is the first time to use that machine in Yamagata Prefecture, 5th time in Tohoku area. And there is unique point to manage infomatio of people from other countires. This is very unique whole in Japan.

Yamagata City has a plan to combine with around cities, Kaminoyama, Tendo, Yamanobe, and Nakayama. At first they made "foundation" but many people inside and outside want clear vision about it. So they made the vision to combine cities by theirselves.
Because of it, other cities have to decide their stances, acceptable or against.

The party "Care Friends Yamagata" gather many postcards which we missed to write. This is a party of international aid. They went to the city office to set the box for postcards. In China, they can buy a desk by 10 postcards and go to school for a year by 20 postcards.
