Consumer price indices, August 2026

Annual growth of consumer prices at 3.0%, monthly at 0.1%

In August, consumer prices increased by 3.0% annually and by 0.1% monthly. In one year, service prices went up by 4.3% and goods prices by 2.3%.

In August, consumer prices increased by 3.0% at the annual level, In the same month last year, the inflation rate was also 3.0%.

In one year, service prices grew on average by 4.3% and goods prices by 2.3%. Prices of non-durable goods went up by 3.6% and of semi-durable goods by 0.3%. On the other hand, durable goods prices went down by 1.0%.

The biggest impact on inflation (1.0 percentage point) came from 8.1% higher prices in the group housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels. Prices increases in the groups transport (by 4.7%) and recreation, sport and culture (by 5.3%) contributed 0.7 p.p. and 0.5 p.p., respectively.

Monthly inflation at 0.1%

Compared to the previous month, consumer prices rose by 0.1%.

Higher prices of operation of personal transport equipment increased by 2.3%, contributing 0.2 of a percentage point to inflation. 0.1 p.p. was added by higher prices of electricity, gas and other fuels (by 1.5%). Other price increases in August contributed another 0.2 p.p.

On the other hand, inflation was reduced by 0.1 p.p. each by lower prices of footwear (by 5.7%), clothing (by 2.2%), package holidays (by 1.1%), and food (by 0.4%).

Harmonised indices of consumer prices

Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, this August the annual growth of consumer prices was 3.4% (a year ago 3.0%). The monthly price growth stood at 0.3%.

In one year, service prices increased on average by 4.3% and goods prices by 2.7%. Prices of non-durable goods also went up by 4.3% and of semi-durable goods by 0.5%, while durable goods prices went down by 1.1%.

Annual inflation rates in July 2026 for all EU-27 Member States are available here. Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, in July the annual inflation rate in the EMU countries was 2.9% (a month before 2.8%). In the EU-27 Member States it was 3.0% (a month before 2.9%). The lowest annual inflation rate was recorded in Sweden (0.3%) and the highest in Romania (8.2%); in Slovenia it stood at 3.0%.
