Previous research

After joining the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE) in 1995, he specialized in macroeconomic forecasting for China and Hong Kong. He later expanded his research to macroeconomic analyses of Malaysia and Indonesia focusing on the causes and consequences of the Asian Financial Crisis. During his secondment to the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) from 2008 to 2011, he was responsible for research projects on regional economic integration and connectivity involving ASEAN and its neighboring countries. More recently, his research has increasingly centered on connectivity between ASEAN and South Asia.

Current research projects

His current research focuses on connectivity in the Bay of Bengal region, particularly involving Bangladesh, Northeast India, Bhutan, and Nepal, while also encompassing Myanmar and Thailand. He conducts this research in collaboration with researchers from the countries concerned.
