Previous research

My research has primarily focused on industrial agglomeration and firm productivity in East and Southeast Asia. After joining IDE-JETRO, I worked in a research group focused on input-output analysis, where I contributed to the development of interregional input-output tables for Japan, China, and Korea, as well as studies related to global value chains (GVCs). From 2015 to 2017, I worked at the OECD in Paris as a visiting researcher, where I conducted research on economic resilience using Inter-Country Input-Output tables. Since returning to IDE-JETRO, my work has focused on theoretical approaches in economic geography, examining how agglomeration, globalization, and industrial transformation affect economic growth. I have also used geographic information systems (GIS) for empirical studies on environmental policy.

Current research projects

My current research examines gender differences in commuting constraints and their economic implications, from the perspectives of economic geography and labor economics. In many countries, women face greater constraints in commuting than men, which may contribute to gender wage gaps. Using data from Japan and Southeast Asia, combined with theoretical models in economic geography, I analyze why these gender differences arise, how large they are, and how they impact overall economic productivity.
