New City Developments in Egypt

Outline

The purpose of this research is to investigate the porcess of new city developments and its impact on Egyptian economy under Sisi. In Egypt, more than 20 new cities were built in the last quarter of the 20th century, though none of them realized its initial targets. Despite the poor performances of the new cities built in the past, President Sisi resumed the construction of new cities from the very start of his presidency. Why were new city developments restarted? What impact will the new city developments have on the Egyptian economy? This research tries to answer these questions from the viewpoint of political economy and development policy.
