Merger & Acquisition/Consolidations of the Rural Bank Sector and Financial Inclusion in the Philippines
Outline
In this project, we aim to conduct the following research on the Philippine rural banking sector, which is one of the major players in promoting financial inclusion: (1) Overviewing the Central Bank’s (BSP) policies and measures/programs for accelerating M&As/consolidations among rural banks, and the achievements since 2000 to date; (2) Analysis on M&A/consolidation cases regarding their objectives and operating performance; and (3) Present/future role of the rural banking sector in the rural economy, and policy implications in view of a rapidly changing business environment such as digitization.
