Compilation and use of the Japan-Taiwan extended bilateral input output table (2020_2_40_018)
Outline
In recent years, production processes have become subdivided into several stages, and some countries in the global supply chain now specialize in producing the parts and components for just a single final consumer product. Traditional trade statistics are no longer sufficient, and firm-level micro data and multi regional input?output tables are utilized to capture this phenomenon. Since Bernard and Jensen [1999] pointed out that each firm shows different levels of productivity, more recent studies have considered firm heterogeneity, which cannot be considered using multi-regional input-output tables because it assumes firm homogeneity within industries. This study aims to compile a Japan?Taiwan extended bilateral input?output table in which information on firm heterogeneity, such as firm size, firm ownership, and export activity, is incorporated to more accurately calculate the trade in value-added indictors and to identify the production structure according to firm size and firm behaviour.
