Leadership and Regional Organizations(2018_2_40_020)

Outline

The rise and fall of regional organizations is key to understanding contemporary international relations. EU and ASEAN have attracted significant attention among scholars. In reality, there have been many low-profile organizations proposed and established by minor countries that claim leadership, and the inter-relationships among those organizations are extremely complicated. However, little emphasis has been placed on such organizations in previous studies. This study analyzes the motivations behind establishing minor regional organizations and the rise and fall of regional organizations from two angles: institutional and country level.
