FY 2016/2017 Research Topic: C-20
Role of Board of Directors in GCC Companies

Outline

In recent years, for the corporate sector in Gulf Arab countries, corporate governance has become an important issue. Since the late 2000's, many Gulf-based companies have actively expanded overseas and introduced foreign capital. As a result, stakeholders have gradually requested more transparency and improved governance in the corporate sector.
Our research aims to clarify the board structure and its changes in listed companies in Gulf Arab countries and to analyse how the board structure affects their performance. We focus attention on i) directors on the board of directors who originate from the royal family and business families, and ii) foreign investors.
