International policy diffusion and fragmentation of environmental regulations
Outline
It has been said that the architecture of agreements on environmental issues is "fragmented" because of the large number of rules and regulations established in individual countries. On the other hand, within some issue-areas, fragmented rules and regulations of addressing the problems have shown a tendency of "policy diffusion," which indicates a compatibility and links between rules and regulations. In this project, three examples are inter-disciplinarily examined through their process and influence: the increase in energy-saving labeling requirements, spread of regulations on chemicals, and expansion of the carbon market and emission trading schemes.
