Skill Development for Youth in Africa
Outline
Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) has become an important policy agenda for poverty reduction that is expected to assist the poor and young in finding employment. African countries have substantially restructured and scaled up their TVET institutions so that they effectively support the development of skills matching the demand in the labor market. While the policy has been enhanced, it is not based on a firm understanding of the process of skill development, including training in factories or informal workshops. Focusing on cases in Ethiopia, Ghana and South Africa, this project fills the gap and examines the role of TVET systems in skill development for youth in Africa.
