Celebrating 10 years of C2C4C

12/10/23

In 2023:

  • 8 UK & Ireland colleagues participated
  • 2,200km covered from Germany to the UK
  • 28 countries represented in four regional rides
  • 34,000ドル+ raised for two locally nominated charities:

This year, we’re celebrating a decade of the Country 2 Country 4 Cancer (C2C4C) ride and our ongoing commitment to advancing cancer research. A team of eight Bristol Myers Squibb UK & Ireland riders took part in the 2023 event, forming a community of more than 90 riders, with colleagues representing 19 countries.

Collectively they tackled a 2,200km route in 18 days across several stages, with different teams cycling through Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, and the UK. For the first time ever, riders from the Czech Republic, Poland, and Romania also participated.

The inaugural ride took place in the United States in 2014, and since then, approximately 550 Bristol Myers Squibb colleagues from the UK and across Europe have raised more than 2ドル million through the C2C4C ride.

This annual event is more than just a bike ride, it’s a reminder that patients are at the centre of what we do, as one team, every day. Patients are the reason BMS employees were inspired to create the C2C4C ride in 2014 and continue to raise money to fund and advance cancer research.

Who are the riders?

Representing the UK&I team were; Barbara Ann Heather, BMS Ireland Team Coordinator; Bruce Thomas, Director Worldwide Curriculum Pathway Excellence, WW Training Centre of Excellence; Leontien Tilman, Associate Director IT Service Desk EMEA; Rich Lawford, Strategy & Operations Lead; Shirani Meyer, Associate Director Sales and Marketing; Jerry O’Neill, Associate Director Medical Strategy, Operations and Governance Lead; Lorraine McGill, Process Lifecycle Manager and Jose Diaz, Senior Director WWHEOR HTA Strategy & Affordability.

These eight passionate riders went through five months of intensive training to complete their portion of the ride, which saw them journey from Paris to Uxbridge.

"My motivation for riding was to do my part supporting charitable organisations that provide the best possible support free, to anyone with cancer and their families. This year my main challenge was squeezing in the required training and planning of a large Black Tie charity event while juggling a young family and work commitments. I’m glad I did as the feeling of close camaraderie I got from cycling with a group through shared challenges toward a common goal has created lifelong memories and friendships."

Bruce Thomas, UK/I Team Captain 2023

A huge well done to everyone for an incredible performance cycling over 360km to raise vital funds for Maggie’s and the Irish Cancer Society!

Celebrate with us and check out this video on our journey and dedication to reduce the global cancer burden at BMS.
