Integrated Command and Control Centre: A Holistic Approach to Tackling Environmental Challenges in Chandigarh, India
A smart command center in Chandigarh, India, shows how data-driven governance can tackle pollution, waste, and water challenges while engaging citizens in building a resilient city.
The Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Chandigarh, India, was established under the Smart Cities Mission to address rising environmental and urban management challenges, such as pollution, waste, water scarcity, and traffic congestion. Developed with advanced surveillance, IoT sensors, and real-time data analytics, the ICCC became the city’s "operational brain," integrating over 25 services, ranging from traffic management to air quality monitoring. Its success lies not only in technology but also in strong leadership, interdepartmental coordination, and citizen engagement, which together have improved waste segregation, expanded green mobility, conserved water, and enhanced disaster response.
