What is Okutadami?

Okutadami is a secluded, mountainous "hidden gem" in Niigata Prefecture, located about 2.5 to 3 hours from Tokyo by bullet train and car. Its greatest appeal lies in its magnificent nature, which changes its expression with each of the four seasons.

Spring Highlights

Spring Highlights

Due to heavy snowfall, a vast amount of snow remains until spring, allowing you to enjoy a magnificent view unique to this season, where fresh greenery and lingering snow are woven together. Okutadami Maruyama Ski Resort is known as the "Mecca of spring skiing," where you can enjoy skiing amid the contrast of snow and lush green. Boat tours start from late May, offering a chance to see the spectacular scenery of new leaves and remaining snow.

Summer Highlights

Summer Highlights

This season offers the pleasant air of a forest covered in deep green. You can take a leisurely ride on an Okutadami Lake boat tour and fully enjoy the scenery created by the dam lake and its surrounding nature. We also recommend the Oze trekking tour from Okutadami, where you can enjoy the stunning Nikko Kisuge flowers in the Oze marshes in July.

Autumn Highlights

The mountains are painted in a spectacular tapestry of autumn leaves. The view of the vibrant foliage reflecting on the lake from a boat tour is especially beautiful and captivates many visitors.

Winter Highlights

Winter Highlights

This place is one of Japan's leading heavy snowfall regions. In early winter, the Okutadami Maruyama Ski Resort opens its doors in December. It's a hidden gem of a ski resort where you can fully enjoy its magnificent powder snow. Afterwards, from January to around March, the roads are closed, making access difficult. This heavy snowfall is the very source of the lingering snow that brings such beauty in the spring.
