Capitalism and Democracy

This group analyzes the impact of changes in the international situation and technological innovation on capitalism and democracy, with a view to breaking away from excessive market principles. As part of this effort, a dialog will be held between Keidanren executives and Nakajima Takahiro, Principal Investigator, then the results will be disseminated.

United States Studies

This project further deepens the U.S. research system, which combines business and academic knowledge, and analyzes the impact of the changing international situation and major policies in anticipation of the midterm elections on Japanese companies. The project also analyzes the ongoing fragmentation of society in the United States from a multifaceted perspective, including technology, culture, religion, and media. It also focuses on the relationship between the federal and state governments and explores the future of democracy in the United States.

Europe Studies

Europe has demonstrated strong information dissemination and rule-making capabilities, particularly with regard to social issues such as climate change, which is attracting global attention.This project researeches the political, economic, and legal trends in Europe and the background, and analyzes the impact on Japan and other countries around the world.

China Studies

With a view to understanding international affairs from the Chinese perspective, this project analyzes China's foreign policies, including the crisis in Ukraine, the confrontation between the United States and China, and the situation in Taiwan in the light of the latest developments. In addition, the project understands China's economy and other key policies, and explores social changes and the state of Communist Party governance, then analyzes their impact on Japanese companies.

Korea Studies

This project researches and presents directions of industrial cooperation between Japanese and Korean industries to build a trusted relationship and to work together in the future.The program also contributes to the deepening of Japan-Korea relations and the sound development of Japanese companies through analysis of social and civic issues common to the two countries and planning of personal exchanges.

International Taxes

The project aims to cooperate with the Committee on Taxation at Keidanren on addressing the taxation issues associated with the digitalization of the economy and to provide the opinions in a timely and appropriate manner as a business community. The project also examines issues related to Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS), and researches and studies tax system reforms and trends in "tax and the environment" in various countries.

Economic Security and Intellectual Property

Trends of digital innovation, geopolitical structural change, and climate change are transforming innovation activities.With these changes in the environment requiring new intellectual property strategies, we will analyze the situation in which Japanese companies find themselves and discuss policies that will create a more desirable industrial environment.
