Saint Lucia

The economy of Saint Lucia is heavily dependent on the tourism sector, as well as on the agricultural sector, most notably the export of bananas as traditional product. At the end of October 2010, hurricane Tomas struck the country and inflicted widespread damage to its water supplying system, roads, electrical and agricultural infrastructures. Since then, many public works projects have been implemented and the number of tourists from countries such as the US, the UK and Canada has recovered, resulting in Saint Lucia's rapid post disaster recovery and the GNI per capita of Saint Lucia is US6,530ドル(2012:World Bank). In order to tackle its vulnerability to natural disasters and also to promote the diversification of the country's industry, JICA's support to Saint Lucia focuses on "disaster risk reduction and environmental conservation" and on "fisheries' development".
