Chapter 1, Problem 2E

Explanation of Solution

Conversion from binary to decimal:

Steps to find the decimal value for binary number:

  • Each position or a digit has a value in a binary number. The position values must start from right to left. They are 20, 21, 22, and so on.
  • Find the position value of all one’s in given binary number.
  • Calculate the sum of all position values.
  • The result will be its equivalent decimal value.

Given binary numbers:

1101:

The positon values of all 1’s are 20, 22 and 23. The below diagram illustrate the conversion from binary to decimal as follows:

Therefore, the decimal value of binary number "1101" is "13"...

You are tasked with developing a portable system that can be worn to collect health and fitness data. The challenge is to integrate all functions into the smaller form of an ear clip. The device should include heart rate, movement and temperature sensor and wireless communication with a mobile app. Draw a diagram- hardware architecture of the system- including the selection of suitable sensors, communication modules, and an energy-efficient microcontroller. (visualize the components and their connections)
Draw out an example of 3 systems using Lamport’s logical clock and explain the steps in words.
