Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to fundamentally transform our economies and the way we conduct economic research. This Research and Policy Network (RPN) brings together leading scholars and practitioners to explore the transformative implications of AI for productivity, labour markets, inequality, competition, political economy, and other aspects of our economies. It pays particular attention to the effects of foundation models, such as large language models, which have emerged as a key driver of the far-reaching impact of AI. Moreover, it also examines how AI is revolutionizing the methodological toolkit of economics, enabling novel approaches to economic research.
The network aims to build a vibrant research community by generating, coordinating, and disseminating research on the economics of AI and by organizing conferences and online workshops to facilitate knowledge-sharing among economists and other experts. The ultimate goal is to produce high-quality research that serves three critical roles in informing economic policy:
(1) enhancing our understanding of the ongoing impacts of AI on the economy
(2) improving our ability to predict the scope and scale of potentially transformative future advances in AI, and
(3) providing guidance on how to navigate and effectively manage the transition to an economy that is increasingly powered by AI.
On Saturday, 6 December 2025, 14:30-15:30 (Paris time), the Artificial Intelligence RPN will hold a session at Collège de France during the CEPR Paris Symposium 2025.
