DESQview/X is an X-windowing system for DOS, built on top of Quarterdeck's text based DESQview multitasking system. This X-windowing system is X11R5 compatible and can operate on a network to run X applications on remote DESQView/X or Unix systems.

The Application Manager is the primary DESQview/X user interface shell.
DESQview/X can also run without a shell, launching applications from the
window manager's popup menu instead. I couldn't get a screen shot of that
because it disappears when an application is run. The interface consists
of lots and lots of buttons. It took a few minutes for me to get used to
the Application Manager because clicking the button once "selects" the
button rather than opening the application. Double clicking it opens the
application or another Application Manager window.

This is the DESQview/X File Manager. It's not very friendly (no drag-and-drop
and double-clicking an executable opens it in a hex viewer instead of running
it) but it has enough functionality to be usable. The dual pane design
is based on the idea that any single file operation only needs a source
and destination directory.
