Lasers are obstacles in Mario vs. Donkey Kong and its remake. They appear in levels in Twilight City and Twilight City Plus, as well as the e-Reader level Laser Panic!. Lasers come in red, yellow, and blue varieties, which are the same colors as Color Switches, although whichever Color Switch is currently active does not influence lasers. Instead, lasers fire beams of energy periodically depending on their color. The active laser color cycles from red to blue to yellow, then back to red. This change happens roughly every second. If Mario touches an active laser, he is electrocuted and loses a life. Lasers can be oriented horizontally or vertically. Although lasers cannot be turned off, their beams can be prevented from reaching Mario by small Color Blocks, as seen in Level 8-4.
