Professor Cranky Kong , Donkey Kong 64

Jetpac is a shooter video game released in 1983 for the ZX Spectrum and VIC-20 as the first creation of Rare, which was known as Ultimate Play the Game at the time of its release. The game was also ported to the BBC Micro the following year.

In the game, the player plays as an astronaut, Jetman, trying to repair his spaceship while avoiding aliens. The astronaut has to collect all the pieces for his ship and fuel while blasting aliens with his laser gun. Each part of the ship is worth 100 points when retrieved, and each alien is worth 25 points when blasted. Rare remade the game on Xbox Live Arcade as Jetpac Refuelled . Rare also re-released the game and its remake on Xbox One as part of Rare Replay .

Donkey Kong 64[edit ]

The ZX Spectrum version of Jetpac is playable in Donkey Kong 64 as a test by Cranky Kong in his lab after the player gets 15 Banana Medals. In this version of the game, the player must score 5,000 points within three lives to cause a Rareware Coin to start spawning and then collect the coin while it spawns. Jetpac can also be played from the Mystery option, where it is unlocked after six Banana Fairies are collected.

Notes[edit ]

  • Rare developed a ZX Spectrum emulator for a scrapped Easter egg in GoldenEye 007 . The emulator still exists in that game's code alongside a text file listing various Rare-made ZX Spectrum games, including Jetpac. Despite this, the Donkey Kong 64 version of Jetpac is a native N64 version.[1]
