The Border Bros.[1] are the Hammer Bros. who guard Beanbean Borderland in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga . One of them wears a red flag atop his helmet, while the younger one wears a blue one. Both brothers' faces resemble a Sumo Bro's, and their shape and flags atop their head could be a reference to Tweedledum and Tweedledee from Through the Looking-Glass .

In gameplay, the Border Bros. allow Mario and Luigi to pass only if they complete Border Jump, which is basically jumping across a rope. The older Border Bro gives them the Beanbean Map afterwards. Even after completing the challenge, Mario and Luigi can return to replay it, though at a higher difficulty, and replaying the minigame earns the Mario Bros. more Hee Beans.

Notes[edit ]

  • During the Border Bros.' first tutorial of Border Jump, if Mario jumps when they command Luigi to jump, a Border Bro will tell Mario to "give the 'Jumpman' thing a rest." This references "Jumpman," an alternate name for Mario used in the arcade release of Donkey Kong .
