Relationship Between Power Demand and Peak Supply Capacity

(Reference) Pumped storage power generation at peak times

How pumped storage power generation works

Large reservoirs (regulating reservoirs) are located at the top and bottom of the power plant. When daytime power demand is high, water is dropped from the upper to the lower reservoir to generate electricity and the water is stored in the lower reservoir.

At night, when power demand drops, power for example from thermal or nuclear power plants is used to pump the stored water back into the upper reservoir, so that it can be used again during daytime.
