Checklists
Beginning your journey in Xenoblade Chronicles X comes with the difficulty of choosing your starting class. There are three choices to pick from, each with differing advanced classes that you unlock as you level up. Even though there are three choices, narrowing down the best choice is not apparent. This page details the best starting class you can choose in XCX.
The Best Starting Class in Xenoblade Chronicles X
You have three starting classes to choose from after you reach level 10 in Drifter:
Of these three choices, the Striker is more favorable for those new to XCX. It focuses on using offensive and defensive arts with the longsword and assault rifle as your primary weapons. Striker would be a good introduction to how you use your more advanced arts and provide you the freedom to learn your preferred party composition if this is your first time playing.
Because the Drifter also uses an assault rifle as their primary weapon, you can bring a handful of Arts with you when you start as a Striker. You begin playing Striker at level 1 with flame grenade, assault hammer, and infuriate, alongside the Striker's starting art, rising blade. You can continue down this path by unlocking the Samurai Gunner or take it in a new direction with the Shield Trooper, becoming a tank for your party.
For anyone going through Xenoblade Chronicles X for a second time or if you've played it on the Wii-U, choosing the Enforcer or the Commando might be more suitable. The Enforcer is the most advanced and complicated starting class, focusing on unlocking ranged Arts and those supporting your party. However, it does have the knife as its melee weapon, and you can use chrome armor, slit edge, and recuperate abilities you get from Drifter.
You won't be charging into the heated action as much. Instead, you'll want to clear debuffs and heal allies, boosting your team's chances of survival. If you enjoy debuffing enemies, continue with the Psycorruptor, or you can unlock new weapons with the Blast Fencer, where you take a more offensive and defensive approach to your play style in XCX.
The Commando has the roughest entry point of these three starting classes in Xenoblade Chronicles X. It uses none of the starting weapons you used while playing as the Drifter, which means you can't use any of the Arts you unlocked there. You only get the first one you unlock at level 1, Back Slash, before unlocking the rest as you level up.
When you reach level 10 with Commando, the Winged Viper and Partisan Eagle become available. The Winged Viper uses the same weapons as the Commando and emphasizes receiving buffs to increase your accuracy in combat. In contrast, the Partisan Eagle switches it up, becoming a robust sniper that deals heavy damage.
The Striker class is the best starting class for those new to the Xenoblade Chronicles X game to understand the basics of combat. Still, don't be afraid to dip into Commando or Enforcer for a few levels to see how you like them. It's always possible that after you master the basics, these more advanced classes could become your preferred choice. You can change your class at any time to try them out.
