Steam Deck Specs
In 2021, we did an initial hands-on with Valve’s Steam Deck, where we first saw its capabilities and the specs of a device for "all-in-one portable PC gaming," which would eventually help revolutionize the handheld gaming PC landscape. The next year, during our official review of the Steam Deck, later referred to as the Steam Deck LCD, it further cemented the abilities of portable PCs. Then, late in 2023, we were introduced to the Steam Deck OLED, the only Valve gaming PC handheld still in production. With it came improvements to the screen and a few other specs, which we highlighted in our Steam Deck OLED review.

Below are both the Steam Deck LCD and Steam Deck OLED tech specs:

When comparing Steam Deck models, it’s clear that the specs are nearly identical. Beyond a better display with a higher refresh rate, a longer battery life, and Wi-Fi 6E support on the Steam Deck OLED, there aren’t any major differences. In fact, the gaming performance is quite similar. Still, these slightly more budget and mid-range gaming handhelds paved the way for more powerful portables, like the ROG Xbox Ally X or Lenovo Legion Go S (Z1 Extreme, SteamOS).
Benchmarks
Our IGN tech experts did benchmark testing of the Steam Deck LCD. While we don’t have the numbers for the Steam Deck OLED, we do have the Lenovo Legion Go S (Z1 Extreme, SteamOS) and ROG Ally X results to compare to the Steam Deck LCD.

Based on these results, it's clear that the other two gaming handhelds outperform the Steam Deck LCD in nearly every category. However, given that the Steam Deck LCD is about half the price of the other two, these numbers aren’t surprising.
