Tips and Tricks

Updated:

Every good detective has their tricks to figuring out the secrets of a case. Here are our tips and tricks for Mouse: P.I. For Hire.

Always Save at the Typewriters

While this game does have some autosaving, it’s still a good idea to use the manual save points to be able to jump back in at key spots. These are often placed before wave battles or puzzles to solve such as the safes you have to tailpick. If you lose in a fight you won’t have to go far to restart and if you get locked out of a safe you’ll be able to reload at the save and try again so you don’t lose out on the cash or other items you can find in the safes.

Use the Micer for Distance Shots

If you want to be able to attack enemies from a distance use the Micer gun, at least in the beginning. More weapons will get unlocked later but for now, this is your best distance option.

Check All of Your Surroundings

While you’re moving through the levels, make sure to do a thorough check of the whole area before moving on. You can find secrets or just more items you may not notice on first glance this way, especially after defeating enemies, this can get you more money, schematics, and/or collectibles.

Let the Ammo Provided Guide Your Weapon

Each level has ammo prepared for you to pick up as you go through the story. Look at the ammo types offered while investigating a case to see which weapons are recommended.

Listen for the Bell

When a fight starts there is a boxing bell sound to warn you of oncoming enemies. This same bell sounds when you’ve defeated all of the enemies in an area. Paying attention to the bell should help you be on alert when you’re supposed to be.

Kick

Your kick might be your most underrated ability. With it you can push enemies back and stun them, giving you a chance to switch or use your weapons. You can also break windows that lead to secret areas by kicking. There are boxes along your path that are lighter in color, these are breakable and sometimes have ammo or Heal-D bottles.

Adjust Your Settings as Needed

Mouse: P.I. For Hire has an extensive list of settings options including aim acceleration, aim assist, and difficulty. These settings can be changed at any time in the game from your pause menu. Use them to make things easier or more challenging as needed

Be Cautious of Auto-fire

While some weapons do auto-fire if you hold down the trigger, be careful not to waste too much ammo. Your ammo is limited unless you buy some from the shop, which isn’t worth the money.

Examine Your Safes

Do the safes carefully. When you go into tailpick, you’ll see some are timed and have limits on your moves so you can get locked out. This is where saving at the typewriters regularly can come in handy. Don’t forget you can return to your last save and try again if you do get locked out.

Check All Doors

Some doors have signs that say no entry and still it may be where you need to go. Other doors may not be marked at all and yet may lead you to secret areas. Be thorough in examining the area.

Stack Your Baseball Cards

Before playing the Baseball Card Game in the bars, it is best to gather a bunch of cards. This will help you get a good stack of cards and will make a big difference in your win ability. You start with pretty low number cards in the beginning. Buy a few baseball cards before you play the mini-game, you’ll get a few skills that will make your play stronger. Check out our Walkthrough to find them for free as you play through each level!

Skip Buying Ammo

On normal difficulty, it isn’t worth buying ammo. There’s almost always enough within the levels to get you through the fights and there are environmental features that can help you fight too. These include dropping items from above like anvils or pianos and explosive barrels.

Eyes on the Compass

There is a compass at the top of the game screen. This does show key items and occasionally the location of enemies.

Jump on the White Line

At the end of boards and catwalks there are white spaces on either side of the jump so you can see where you should start and end. If you feel stuck on where you should go, it could be that jumping across a room might be the answer.
