How to Cast Petrificus Totalus

Petrificus Totalus is an Essential spell in Hogwarts Legacy. It requires specific circumstances to be met for it to be cast, so here's exactly how to cast Petrificus Totalus.

You can unlock Petrificus Totalus during the Main Quest Percival Rackham's Trial.

The in-game description for Petrificus Totalus is "Powerful enough to bind most enemies permanently, but more dangerous fos will only take some damage and then quickly break free from the effect. Sneak up undetected to an enemy and press [Square/X/F] when prompted to cast." Here's exactly how to do that.

The easiest way to maintain stealth when sneaking up on an enemy is to cast the Disillusionment Spell.

Though the Disillusionment Spell grants you near invisibility, especially when upgraded, enemies can detect you if you get too close, so be strategic with your movement.

Once Disillusionment is cast, sneak up behind enemies to take them out with a Petrificus Totalus finisher. To use the Petrificus Totalus takedown, stealthily approach an enemy from behind and, when in range, press Square (PlayStation), X (Xbox), or the F key (PC).

This is very similar to how assassinations or stealth hits work in other games!
