Eliminate Pipes

Alter your game files at your own risk and ALWAYS make backups!

There is a hack that effectively removes the pipes in Flappy Bird. Though they still exist, you'll be able to pass through them without taking damage.

To perform the hack, you will need to use your iPad with a jailbreak, or an attached computer with a program such as iExplorer that allows you to explore the contents of your applications.

In the atlas.txt file (instructions on finding the location of that file are below), you will need to adjust the values for the pipe_up and pipe_down variables, located near the bottom of the file. Change the value to 52 in both instances.

Now you will need to overwrite the original atlas.txt file with your modified version. The process is as follows:

  1. Close the Flappy Bird app, if it is open
  2. Open iExplorer or a similar program
  3. Click on Apps on the side menu
  4. Click on the Flappy Bird app
  5. Click on Flap.app
  6. Drag your modified atlas.txt file into iExplorer and instruct it to replace the original atlas.txt file that was included as part of the Flappy Bird application

Now you should load the Flappy Bird app. If everything went as intended, the pipes will be transparent and will no longer harm you.

Flappy Bird Tips

Flappy Bird's game play is simple, but these tips will help you advance much further through the tyrannical encroachment of the pipes.

  • The Top is More Dangerous Than The Bottom - Most novice Flappy Bird players make the mistake of over-flapping. Fearing they will fall, they hug the top of the pipes, and die again and again from head bashes.
  • Don't Be Afraid to Fall - Your bird accelerates as he falls, and many players panic, unnecessarily flapping to keep the bird near the middle of the screen. You don't need to do that. A single flap instantly breaks all downward inertia, and it doesn't matter whether that flap comes mid-screen or near the bottom. You're safe either way.
  • Harness Gravity's Rainbow - Your bird doesn't fall in a clean arc. Gravity drives his trajectory ever downward, building an accelerated descent. When you jump, take into account how far you'll descend in the seconds afterward.
