Magic Interference Explained

Updated:

Final Fantasy 2 Pixel Remaster contains some helpful new additions to make your journey smoother and faster. For the most part, the gameplay mechanics have been untouched in this new makeover. However, one notable return is the Magic Interference stat. This now not-so-hidden stat is still not outright explained in-game, and you could very well merry your way to the end of the game without noticing this penalty.

What Is Magic Interference

Magic Interference is essentially a magic penalty incurred on your magic users. Any character who is built as a mage should ideally have light equipment and armor on them. Doing the contrary will activate the magic interference stat and reduce the accuracy of magic spells, thus dealing less damage per battle.

This affects all types of magic spells, including black and white-based magic spells. Therefore, if, for instance, you want to heal your comrade, but your character wears heavy armor such as Mythril armor, then your cure spell might not be as accurate and you might miss.

How to Avoid Magic Interference

As previously mentioned, the best way to avoid or reduce the magic interference penalty is to equip light armor and equipment or even outright not equip it at all. However, if completely forgo armor, then the chances of the enemy hitting you with a status ailment go up.

Therefore, it is best to build teams where at least one party member is heavily inclined as a fighter/weapons specialist whose magic is used as a last resort or with minimal use.
