Apple Inc. has been producing series and films since 2016, but Apple TV Originals only came into being when the streaming service itself launched in 2019. The service offered eight original series at launch, including the sci-fi series For All Mankind, which was soon followed by the comedy hit Ted Lasso. While this wasn't a particularly robust library at first, Apple continued to promise a "quality over quantity" approach to its programming.
In the years since, Apple TV has premiered a steady stream of highly rated originals that are streaming exclusively on the Apple-owned service. Unlike other streaming services, most Apple TV Originals follow a weekly release schedule for new episodes.
