Spirited Away

Spirited Away is the story of a little girl named Chihiro, whose family is moving to the suburbs. While on the way to their new home, dad takes a wrong turn - like so many dads do - and the family happens upon a creepy, abandoned town. Chihiro has a bad feeling about the whole thing, but dad insists on exploring. Things start to get a little complicated when mom and dad enter a seemingly abandoned restaurant. They see a great feast spread out, and not a single person around the whole place. Starving, mom and dad chow down on the huge meal, but Chihiro refuses to eat. She goes out to explore the town instead. While looking around she begins to see strange and disturbing things. There are ghostly forms and shadowy figures appearing all over the place. Is this place haunted? When she runs back into the restaurant to get her parents she finds something unexpected and terrifying. Her parents have both been transformed into huge, disgusting swine. She believes she is the only human in this bizarre world until she meets a young boy named Haku. Haku becomes her guide in this mysterious place. He tells her that she is in Yayu, a place where spirits and gods retire to after wandering the earthly realms. Yayu is ruled by an old witch named Yubaaba. Chihiro must now work for Yubaaba in a place where the gods come to rest. She commands her to take on a new identity and a new name, Sen. Forced to live in a twisted world, Sen searches for a way to get her parents back. Mostly importantly, she can never forget Haku's warning: Forget your real name, and you can never return to your former life.
