Saros is the follow up to the 2021 release Returnal. It brings a very similar bullet hell approach with a rouguelike style of game.
In each run you earn lucinite that can be used to update your key 3 stats and progressively get stronger and stronger. This results in the game feeling a bit easier after each run (it is still quite difficult though!) and also gives that sense that even with dying you are still making progress.
The game play in Saros is like a faster paced Returnal and is incredibly satisfying. The movement is super responsive and engagi****me play and the game play loop are by far the best things about this game, and I would say it will be difficult to find a better feeling game in 2026.
Where I did feel Saros took a step back compared to Returnal is the story. It never really grasped me, and while there is a mystery slowly being told I never felt any connection with the main character. I don't think it's bad by any means but it wasn't the thing making me want to play more.
Overall, another fantastic release by Housemarque, I look forward to seeing what comes next from them.

A little more straight-forward and transparent than its predecessor but still an awesome game. I loved watching the descent into madness and I really wish that had gone on longer in the game. The action is smooth and addictive. A few hidden mechanics that are not overtly explained.
If you are making any patches, please make the final decision for the epilogue clearer.

Highly recommended if you like Reuturnal which was an amazing game. This game improves on its spiritual successor. I’m not sure why this got rated as a 7 with a Metacritic of 88 and others highly rating this high.

Saros tries at an interesting and ambitious story it isn't always able to effectively tell, but Housemarque has once again proved that its bullet-hell sensibilities mesh incredibly well with fluid and challenging action.
