Neon White contains incredible level design, challenges, and gameplay mechanics, and it has a surprisingly engaging story with charming characters to boot. Some of the gifts are maybe a bit too well hidden, but there's only a little shame in turning to YouTube for the occasional help.

8- Excellent Gameplay is pretty much perfect, the card shooting and movement tech are so quickly understood while never becoming boring. Always trying to edge out another second or two on runs, consistently unlocking new incentives to go again on each level and seeing how you stack up with friends and global leaderboards will constantly have you going again. Trying to beat secret dev times could have you playing for hundreds of hours. All levels have a freebie shortcut that’s shown to you but that’s never all there is. If you dig deeper you’ll find many more ways to cut out small sections or entire chunks of levels. The game constantly introduces new mechanics that ramp up level speeds and player options, capping at the an insane teleporting ability that takes off all player limiters and lets you go completely wild. All this, and yet the level design is never broken. Just a rock solid title from a design perspective. Machine Girls electro-punk soundtrack is such a perfect fit and the visual design is simple and elegant. Plot is just ok, it serves as a vehicle for silly character interactions that are the right kind of bad for my tastes. Neon White sticks with you.
