Meaning & History

Modern Persian form of Middle Persian 𐭧𐭥𐭮𐭫𐭥𐭣𐭩 (Husroy), from an Old Iranian name meaning "good fame". The Avestan cognate 𐬵𐬀𐬊𐬯𐬭𐬀𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬵 (Haosrauuah) appears in the Zoroastrian religious texts the Avesta, belonging to the legendary king Kay Khosrow. The name was later borne by several rulers of the Sasanian Empire, notably the 6th-century Khosrow I.
