Richard Burmeister (Composer, Arranger)

Born: December 7, 1860 - Hamburg, Germany
Died: February 19, 1944 - Berlin, Germany

The German German composer, pianist, and teacher, Richard Burmeister, studied with Franz Liszt in Weimar, Rome, and Budapest, accompanying him on his travels. Later he taught at the Hamburg Conservatory, the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, the Dresden Conservatory (1903-1906), and the Klindworth-Scharwenka Conservatory in Berlin (1907-1925). He also made extensive concert tours of Europe and the USA.

Richard Burmeister's works include the symphonic fantasy Die Jagd nach dem Cluck; Piano Concerto; Romanza for Violin and Orchestra; The Sisters for Alto and Orchestra and olher vocal pieces; piano music. He also rescored Frédéric Chopin's F-minor Concerto, F. Liszt's Mephisto Waltz and 5th Rhapsody (with new orchestral accompaniment), and Weber's Konzertstück for Piano and Orchestra.
