ARTPEC is our in-house designed System-on-Chip (SoC) – and is a vital component of our products. It is the basis for capabilities like image quality, analytics features, and coding performance – and enables us to develop completely new technologies. In 1999 products with our very first ARTPEC were released. Now, more than 20 years later, we are on the ninth version of the SoC.

In 2015, the industry faced a pervasive challenge. One that plagued customers indiscriminately: false alarms. A team of engineers were tasked with solving this challenge. Did the team succeed?

In 2013, many critical infrastructure customers requested explosion-protected cameras. This demand set Axis on a path of development to optimize cameras for such environments. The first camera reached the market in 2015, and that was only the beginning.

The first analytics application appeared in our cameras more than 20 years ago. But advances in technology have seen analytics take a step forward in recent years. And with future hardware, software and platform innovations, the ability to employ advanced edge analytics in video surveillance across every industry will accelerate further.

When wearing a camera, everyone from a healthcare professional to a security guard can create a more secure workplace, have a better possibility of collecting evidence and can get input to develop better work methods. We have talked to some of the team members behind our body worn cameras to find out more about the development.

More than a decade ago, we recognized the benefits of harnessing the power and creativity of developers to create innovative solutions. That is why we developed AXIS Camera Application Platform (ACAP) – an open application platform that enables developers to create applications that can be downloaded to a range of our devices.

This is the story of enthusiastic and engaged people with an idea, an incentive and good timing, which resulted in the world’s very first network camera. And it all started with a journey to Japan...

Years ago, the bitrate consumed by cameras was holding the industry back. A group of engineers from Axis set out to improve the bitrate. The outcome – Zipstream - went beyond the team’s wildest dreams: an improvement up to 95% without losing important details in the footage.

When we launched our Lightfinder technology, it changed the surveillance camera market completely, allowing forensic detail in low-to-zero light conditions. But how did the inventor team bring color to a greyscale world?
