About the Violence Prevention Office

The Violence Prevention Office (VPO) mission is to advance the application of psychological knowledge on violence prevention, trauma and effective trauma-focused treatments to benefit society and improve people’s lives. The office works toward prevention of child maltreatment and youth violence and for the effective treatment for those exposed to violence and trauma. (VPO Mission and Activities – OCT 2017)

1. Coordination of the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and projects. Currently, the ACT Raising Safe Kids Program and the Effective Providers for Child Victims of Violence Program.
2. Technical assistance and training to professionals and organizations participating in the office’s programs in the US and around the world.
3. Dissemination of the best available science, psychological research, and information to professionals and the public through Webinars, listservs, the office website page, the ACT Program website page, Facebook page, blogs, Tweeter, and through written materials such as manuals, booklets and brochures, and a bulletin.
4. Collaboration with PI other offices, federal agencies, national associations and national collaboratives to promote psychology and psychologists’ contributions to the violence prevention and trauma treatment fields.
