ADB's Work in Bangladesh

ADB has been a major source of external assistance to Bangladesh, providing an average of 2ドル billion per year since 2016. ADB assistance is aligned with Bangladesh’s Eighth Five-Year Plan, 2021–2025, and Perspective Plan, 2021–2041.

To date, ADB has committed 726 public sector loans, grants, and technical assistance totaling 31ドル.8 billion to Bangladesh. ADB’s current sovereign portfolio in Bangladesh includes 75 loans and 4 grants worth 13ドル billion.

Forecasts are based on ADB's flagship publication, the Asian Development Outlook. Updated four times a year, it analyzes economic and development issues in developing countries in Asia and the Pacific.

Development indicators for Bangladesh, including a selection of economic, environmental, and social indicators used globally to track progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.

Results achieved are aggregate amounts of outputs and outcomes from operations reported in project completion reports and extended annual review reports circulated for the year.

Cofinancing operations enable ADB’s financing partners, governments or their agencies, multilateral financing institutions, and commercial organizations to participate in financing ADB projects.

Established in 1982, Bangladesh Resident Mission's primary responsibilities include:

  • Initiate and maintain dialogue with the government on issues that are of relevance to ADB operations in the country
  • Strengthen project processing and portfolio management
  • Prepare the country partnership strategy and its annual updates
  • Strengthen working relations with the government, development partners, NGOs, civil society, and the private sector
  • Plan and prepare ADB's substantive economic and sector work for Bangladesh
  • Promote external relations and disseminate information about ADB and its operations
