Tuition Exchange Program
Wayne State University is a member of The Tuition Exchange Program, Inc. (TE)—a nonprofit consortium of over 600 colleges and universities that offer tuition scholarships to eligible dependents of faculty and staff at member institutions.
What Is the Tuition Exchange Program?
The Tuition Exchange (TE) allows eligible employees to apply for scholarships that support their dependent children in pursuing full-time undergraduate degrees at other participating TE institutions across the country.

Awards for incoming students at WSU
What the scholarship covers at WSU
- We will cover the full cost of tuition and standard fees (matriculation, registration, and student service fees) with a combination of federal, state, and other WSU scholarships and grants.
- This award is renewable for up to four years if you are a first-time student or up to 2 years if you are a transfer student.
- This award will ensure tuition and fees are paid, but does not cover any other costs such as housing.
- Does not cover graduate programs, summer sessions, intersessions, or study abroad
- Up to 3 new students will be selected to participate each year
Who is eligible?
- Employees certified as eligible for tuition benefits through their employer human resources office.
- Students must be admitted to WSU and file the annual FAFSA
- Eligibility must be re-certified annually
How to apply
- Apply for admission at WSU.
- Create an account on the Tuition Exchange website and add WSU.
- File the annual FAFSA.
Important: Being selected as a TE candidate does not guarantee admission or a scholarship. Final decisions are made based on availability and eligibility.

What the scholarship covers at participating schools
- Scholarship value is determined by the admitting institution
- May include tuition only, or additional costs like room and board (varies by school)
- Renewable for up to 8 semesters (4 years) of full-time undergraduate study
- Does not cover graduate programs, summer sessions, intersessions, or study abroad
Who is eligible?
- Employees must be eligible for tuition benefits through WSU’s Human Resources.
- Dependents must be:
- Unmarried
- A biological, adopted, or stepchild, or a legal ward
- Accepted as a full-time undergraduate student at a TE member institution
- Eligibility must be re-certified annually
If the employee leaves WSU or loses benefit eligibility, the tuition exchange benefit ends, and the family may be responsible for remaining tuition costs.
How to apply
- Apply for admission to each TE member institution your child is interested in.
- Create an account on the Tuition Exchange website where you will add the school.
- Submit any required financial aid documents to the admitting institution.
