Wayne State University welcomes out-of-state students with the Discover Detroit Scholarship, designed to make your transition to Michigan more affordable and rewarding.
This scholarship covers the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition, making your education at WSU more accessible. The award remains in place until you complete your undergraduate degree. Eligible students may also be considered for additional merit scholarships typically awarded to Michigan residents.
Award for incoming first-year undergraduates - Fall 2026
Eligibility requirements
- Minimum 3.5 cumulative high school GPA
- Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident
- Must be an out-of-state applicant
- Must enroll as a first-time undergraduate at WSU
To be considered:
- Submit your undergraduate admission application (including all transcripts and test scores) as early as possible
- Complete the annual FAFSA to be considered for all available funding
Award for incoming transfer students - Fall 2026
Eligibility requirements
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative college GPA
- At least 24 transferable credit hours
- Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident
- Must be an out-of-state applicant
To be considered:
- Submit your undergraduate admission application (including all transcripts and test scores) as early as possible
- Complete the annual FAFSA to be considered for all available funding
