Financial documentation for F-1 applicants
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security regulations require that all international applicants demonstrate their ability to meet all living and educational expenses for the entire intended period of study in order for the university to issue an I-20. For this reason, the Statement of Financial Support must be submitted regardless of the source of funding.
- If a government, agency, or organization is funding your studies, please upload a verification letter from the source.
- If personal or family funds will be used, please upload a bank statement that shows sufficient funding to cover at least one year of expenses in the United States. The bank statement must:
- Be issued within 6 months of the start date of your intended program
- Be presented on the stationary of the financial institution
- Show the exact amount in the account (see form for more details)
- Have the signature and stamp of the person completing the form
Conditional admission
If you meet the academic requirements for your intended program, but have not yet met WSU's English proficiency requirement, you may be eligible for conditional admission.
Conditional admission requires enrollment in our ELI program, during which students are not eligible to simultaneously pursue their academic courses. It is important to note that admission to our program serves as an alternative to submitting an acceptable English proficiency test score, and is not a temporary admission. It will also not affect your academic department's academic decision or change other program requirements.
Please note that conditional admission is not available for bachelor's or PhD programs.
Steps to apply for conditional admission
Students interested in admission to an academic degree program at Wayne State after completing their English studies should do the following:
- Apply directly to your intended academic program at Wayne State University
- Apply to the English Language Institute and select 'Yes' for conditional admission
- Submit your financial documentation
From there, our team works with university departments on your behalf to determine whether all other admission requirements have successfully been met. If they are met, you will receive confirmation from the ELI directly.
