[フレーム]How to get the update
I’m new to MuseScore Studio 4
Head over to the Download page to see the available options:
- Windows & macOS
- The main download option gives you the MuseHub utility, which you can use to install MuseScore Studio and MuseSounds.
- There's also the option to download MuseScore Studio without MuseHub, but you'll need MuseHub if you want to use MuseSounds.
- Linux
- The main download option will just give you MuseScore Studio.
- You’ll also need to download and install MuseSounds Manager if you want to use MuseSounds.
You can find additional builds on our GitHub Releases page, including a portable Windows EXE.
I already have MuseScore Studio (version 4 onwards)
Users on Windows and macOS will soon receive a notification about the update within MuseScore Studio or within MuseHub.
If you don't want to wait, you can install the new version manually without MuseHub (see above).
New features in this release
This release introduces new engraving tools, significant guitar updates, helpful workflow improvements, and important upgrades to the audio engine. It also includes critical bug fixes to improve app stability, particularly during start-up.
Engraving features
- Arrowheads on text lines can be found in the Lines palette, as well as via new Properties options for existing text line objects.
- Chord brackets can be added from the Lines and Keyboards palettes for showing left/right-hand distribution in keyboard music, barré positions in guitar music, as well as bracketing sections of music.
- Chords can now be parenthesised using the existing parenthesis controls in Properties
- Lyric extension and dashed lines can now be selected for refined positioning
- Curly quotation marks are now used automatically. Use undo after input to revert to straight quotation marks.
- System dividers include new scale and position options in Styles. They can also be selected and edited in the score.
- Text formatting properties have been exposed for all text lines, allowing individual text formatting for staff and system text lines, volta brackets, gradual tempo changes, etc.
- Text justification and alignment have been separated into distinct properties, providing more flexibility for positioning columns of text.
- Options and properties for scaling musical symbols within text have been improved. Click here for more details about the engraving features in this release.
Guitar features
- Major new system for displaying guitar dives, both on and above the tablature stave, as well as on the standard stave. Includes playback support.
- New capo transposition modes let you view sounding vs. played pitches on the standard stave. There's also a non-transposing option on the tablature stave for when the capo is used to simplify the fingering.
- Fretboard diagrams and chord symbols are now included in score transposition
Workflow improvements
- Double-click a single note in a chord to select the entire chord. Use shortcut 'R' to copy/paste it to the next beat.
- Search field in mixer facilitates quick location of sounds and effects
- Initial letter navigation in some long dropdown menus
- New controls for enharmonic spelling in the Tools menu
- Note input via MIDI keyboard: choose an accidental in the note input toolbar to spell inputed notes/chords with that accidental
- 'Q' and 'W' now halve/double the durations of a selected note or range of notes
- 'Find/Go to' can now be used to select a range of measures
- New option in Preferences > Appearance to set invert score mode automatically when app is in dark mode
Playback enhancements
- Refactored audio engine for improved performance and reduced lag on all operating systems
- ASIO support on Windows, plus the option for lower latency with a new 256 sample buffer size
- New 'Tuning and Temperaments' plugin, replacing the three previous plugins
- Improved playback of MS Basic SoundFont, thanks to the re-addition of a low pass filter
- New 16- and 24-bit .WAV export options
- Ability to start playback from the last selected note (using Shift+Spacebar)
Video
- The's now the option to export an MP4 video of the scrolling score view (including audio playback). Go to Publish > Export.
- MIDI machine control can allow compatible VST plugins to control the in-score playhead position
Online sounds
- Refinements have been made to determine rendering chunks in order to improve efficiency of online audio processing
Notable fixes and technical updates

Some additional flaws found in 4.7 (Mac)
Lyric justification doesn't work consistently. Selecting a lyric that is left justified does not move when Center is selected.
The "false" word extension underline still does not work.

I'm sorry to pile on this thread, but I still can't post a new topic in any subforum.
Could someone please post a direct link to download 4.6.5? I'm going to be teaching classes in MSS for Barbershoppers in a few weeks. Dealing with newbies, I can't depend on them to work their way through the links to find it. Hell, I couldn't find a simple "Click here to download 4.6.5."
Or, if anyone has the installer packages for Mac and/or Windows, please let me know. I tossed mine.
Thanks!

mikey12045, did you notice that text justification and alignment have now been separated into distinct properties? For centering a lyric underneath a note you need to use the 'Horizontally centre text box' button (as opposed to 'Horizontally centre text within its bounding box'.)
Although I can't input an actual underscore in a lyric box either, as I wrote to you in another thread, you can now actually modify the extension lines themselves.
I'll attach my sample score, if it can be of any help to you.

Thanks. I’ll have a look. Can I have both 4.6.5 and 4.7 both on the computer?
EDIT: The tip on the alignment for lyrics is fine, and I thank you. The new "word extension" line is exactly what I've been doing. You have to enter the line, and then move it to position and adjust the length. Or am I missing something?

On MacOS, that should work without problems.

Can I have both 4.6.5 and 4.7 both on the computer?
Depends on the operating system and the package you install. On Windows you can have multiple PortableApps installed, on AMC and Linux you have independent versions in any case.

If I understand you correctly, Mikey, you've been adding some other kind of line, right? Before 4.7 it was not possible to select the extension line you get when entering a regular underscore (a melisma). In 4.7, that melisma is now selectable and adjustable. That means that the basic position and thickness will automatically be correct and the only thing you need to adjust is the length.
In reply to If I understand you... by niklasj
The line I created was just that: a line of the correct thickness. I understand what you're saying about the MSS 4.7 line positioning automatically, but it's not working for me. I'm using the US (U.S.) keyboard, which may be the problem. I can't enter that underscore without using the Shift key, which incorrectly enters a series of em dashes. I tried the US (International) keyboard, but that caused more problems than I wanted to deal with. If there's a way to set my line to automatically align with the "serif line" of my lyrics, I'd love to know. Adjusting the length is no problem; setting the horizontal is a little tougher.

We should really move this to another thread, but what to do when the forum software acts up... 🤪
As I understand it you've been trying to enter an underscore using Opt+Shift, right? And then you get the em-dash. You need to do it with Shift only. Then you get the regular melisma, which is, starting from 4.7, adjustable.

Not on my machine.
I have no objections to moving to another thread. Can you start one? I keep getting the error message.
THANKS! The chord selection tool by double clicking and the Q and W buttons are SO USEFULL!
I use MS Studio to sketch musical ideas and to create parts / chord carts for studio musicians so anything to speed up writing is a godsend for me.
And now the program almost has the one feature I would have loved when I went to music University..... Jazz analysis arrows! In "Jazz theory" (cringe I know but its a real thing for Berkley courses or Berkley inspired theory courses) we use special arrows and brackets to show II-V relationships. For example a curved arrow going from an A7 to a Dm shows one cord resolves to the other. And if the A7 has an Em7(b5) before it we would draw a bracket between them. Together forming a II-V resolving to its "one".
This would result in the image attached.
These arrows are as important as roman numeral analysis for these type of jazz courses because in jazz standards we modulate all the time, so its more useful to keep track of the 2-5's than the relative interval between the first bar of the song. Imagine if MuseScore didn't have roman numeral analysis! well that's how I felt with no "arrow" notation analysis in school hehe
Now in MS Studio 4.7 we have arrows, but you cant connect chord symbols with arrows and theres no "bracket" to show the II-V relationship. Plus the arrow cant be curved, only horizontal. I would have killed for native curved arrows and brackets directly in musescore when I was at school. Back then to analyze songs I would write a chart on MuseSocre, then export them as images and draw on them on Microsoft Paint.
Now that we have arrows it would be a godsend to have them work between chord symbols and have curved options and a bracket option. It would make MuseScore super useful in jazz classrooms all around the world!

Absolutely incredible update! Love the many "small" improvements that enhance the experience so much but went unmentioned in the release videos, like the text alignment options (especially setting the position relative to a note and the "justify" option, which makes blocks of text look more professional) and new text formatting properties for all text lines. Can't forget the arrows though!
Hi all!
A couple of users reported experiencing random crashes in 4.7.
If this affects you, please try the build in this PR to see if it resolves the issue for you.
Here's how to run the build.

Earliest once MPEG-2's patents expired.
MY 163465-A (possible expiration of 15 Sep 2032) and MY 177139-A (possible expiration of 8 Sep 2035)
Similar to MP3, for which that happend a couple years ago, MuseScore 2.2 for Windows and 2.3.2 for Mac included MP3 support directly, before that the MP3 lib had to get obtained from somewhere else.

Nothing, but it can be a bit of a pain to have to have a bunch of different softwares. I could also use MuseScore.com to do that too
