We've got our winning logo! Please help us to find a suitable colour. The current one (blue) is already used for other logos of sisterprojects.

Please upload new images with a resolution of ×ばつ900px (like the original [3]). You can also upload a smaller version for preview, but then you must be able to upload a full resolution later.

It is recommend to upload a vector-format (".svg"), so other users can change it easier. (Note: If you see the blue logo linked above only in a size smaller than ×ばつ900px, try opening my preferences, click on the "Files" tab, and increase the value "Limit images on image description pages to" to "×ばつ1024px". You need a Commons user account in order to perform this action.)


Proceedings

Now we've got enough logos for conducting at least two more rounds of voting. Since everybody agrees that's not a good idea, I suggest we do a quick informal vote here on which three or four color options we would like to get an election about, and then start it? Or are there any other ideas about how to proceed? At the moment, the process seems to me to be stuck, so suggestions welcome. Hardern 10:09, 16 November 2006 (UTC) [reply ]

Suggestion to maybe arrive at a quick decision: We combine nominations and elections. I just collected all the logos at the bottom of the page and picked the one which seemed to have the favourite. If someone prefers another one, please move it to the nomination section and add your support vote there (but please don't do this just for the sake of voting on different variants but only if you do really prefer this variant). --Elian 01:14, 17 November 2006 (UTC) [reply ]

Erm, could we agree to only give one vote per person? Otherwise we will have a pretty mess as soon as people start to add a decent contra to all the logos they don't like, just to outweigh the multiple pros those recieved. Thanks! Hardern 21:55, 19 November 2006 (UTC) [reply ]

This is merely a preliminary discussion. At this stage, it's unreasonable to expect people to vote only for one favorite (especially as new candidates are still being added). pure logo

As Hillgentleman suggested in talk page, what do you think of voting for keeping or not the SFX/eye-candy effects on the logo (blue and grey gradient espacialy). Meithal 19:22, 2 December 2006 (UTC) [reply ]

Blue symbolises infinity, like sky and the sea. Wikiversity is having unlimited infinite amount of knowledge base. Hence my vote is for Blue- VGRAJENDRAN

Stay cool, Hillgentleman, and you've got only half of my name right -- it would be better for both of us if you would just call me by my proper name. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I haven't considered how this logo looks on the actual page, and to prove it I've just made a preview and uploaded it here. I don't think that it's so bad. You'd obviously disagree, but I'm fairly certain that the "thousands of users" wouldn't care about logo color as much as you are doing right now. That aside, I'm not saying that blue sucks or anything of the sort; as a matter of fact, I like the original blue in itself, but given the circumstances, I chose to support some other color. It's just that you and I place slightly different priorities to this matter, so calm down, will you? And let's hear what others feel about how this red logo would fit in within the page. Hmm, maybe it was I who wasn't cool enough. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, no offense :-) My name's more like a proper noun and it would be better if you'd just type Asahiko if you have difficulties. (Looking at Wiktionary I was surprised to find that the character 彦 might mean that way.   • Support Support-- Very nice color combination - it is lovely the way the blue globe (as it looks from space) stands out. This is the only version which continues the winning shade of blue in the original logo. That soft but vibrant blue color perhaps helped this logo win. Perhaps we should stick with it for the globe. This silver for the base (or perhaps a shade variation) speak of both dignity and industry.   • The colors are in one logo, together as one structure. The interpretation of complementarity can be explained in a blurb somewhere. We can also further revise the design to suggest greater integration by including blue in the crossbars above and below the pillars.   • Support Support (my attempt). The globe's blue coloring is a very important element, and it probably was a factor behind much of the support that the logo received. The globe is supposed to represent the planet Earth, and that symbolism is lost when a different color is used. If the idea of using two separate colors is widely opposed, we should instead switch to a different shade of blue that reduces the degree of similarity to some of the sister project logos (the reason behind the proposed color change). Hey David. :) This variant popped in my head while eating breakfast (granolla of course). Could you possibly create a version that has vibrant but rich earthy green crossbars above and below the pillars? That would make 3 colors in the design: blue for earth, green for crossbars (both the roof and floor), and grey/silver for the collumns. I experimented with your outline/whitespace idea. I wasn't terribly successful, but it led me to create a new blue/silver version (which I just added directly below). This evolved from the inverted globe portion. —David Levy 20:40, 18 November 2006 (UTC) [reply ]
Thanks very much for experimenting with this. I think Hillgentleman is correct: In outline form, the globe looks like a cage. That try might be softened up by hollowing out the collums and using more or different colors but the connotation would probably still remain. So, my remaining thought would be to try the color alteration on the horizontal crossbars: to green, tan or brown. Okay, I'll give that a try (though I suspect that those who object to the use of two colors might object even more strongly to the use of three). If we do end up sticking with a single color, I believe that something along the lines of my greenish blue attempt would be our best bet; it would retain the "Earth" connotation, while moving away from the shades of blue used in sister project logos. Yes, that is exactly the idea. Thanks again very much. I wish I could play with creating other color variants, such as: brown for the base and tan/beige for the collums (or vice-versa); an olive green/brown-earth-tone variant; a dark tan-beige/light tan variant; etc. There are rich possiblities in the three color scheme alternative I think. Do you have any more time to play with this? We could even propose it as a policy to varry the base/collumn colors over time (keeping the globe the same) on the Wikiversity main page. I copied the 3-color variant to a section below this. It seemed best for the 3-color option to be in separate nomination space. Do you agree? The reason for more options is that, to my eyes, the hues of blue are just a tad clashing -- though they are almost there. It is a very good draft. (Copying this from option H below...) "Ps. I think it is more that there is a clash between the new blue-green hue and the original Cerulean? hue. I meant just to vary the logo design on the Wikiversity front page, not on the sister projects. There could be a default logo - with ocassional variations, sort of like what Google does with its logo on various holidays - but in the WV case not necessarilly tied to holidays. -- Reswik 04:47, 20 November 2006 (UTC) [reply ]

The idea is not to increase the amount of grey (and you'll notice that I changed the lettering to black), but to reduce the amount of blue. The reason behind the proposed color change is that the logo has been deemed too similar in color to the logos of several sister projects. If we change the other elements to different colors/shades, we probably could keep the original blue shade for the globe (because it would no longer predominate). —David Levy 00:17, 20 November 2006 (UTC) [reply ]

  • Oppose Contra I do like the idea of mixing the "traditional" gray, associated with such Greek architecture, in contrast with the blue globe; however, I find the changes in color are both too blunt and not blunt enough. If we decide upon a color scheme similar to this one, I'd suggest that the base and the pillars be the same shade of gray throughout and that the globe be distinctly blue, such that it stands out against the gray base.
